Ellison Barnard is the self-published author of the extraordinary book ‘Ellie’s Elephants’. She’s a passionate little person who is head over heels in love with anything and everything to do with elephants: she and her father came to visit Samui Elephant Haven during her October school break. Ellie spent a few days at the sanctuary; had a genuinely hands-off experience and became a mini-mahout for the day where she shadowed founder, Maew Suriya. Her dream is to become a vet that specialises in large animals and elephants.
Eleven-year-old Ellie read her book, which is a true story of a little girl and her wish for chain-free elephants to almost 100 visitors for her one-off reading. She wrote this heart-wrenching story at the tender age of ten which described her pure love for elephants, her encounters around the world, and her desire to raise funds to support organisations looking to provide better solutions.
“That moment when I met my first elephant, I was amazed. It was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. Over the years, I’ve often wondered what it would be like if they went extinct. My dream is that all elephants are treated ethically”.
Ellie’s books are available for sale in the Samui Elephant Haven shop and are also available on Amazon.
