Phangan Elephant Sanctuary 1

Samui and Phangan Partnership

In November 2022, Maew Suriya, the visionary founder of Samui Elephant Haven, embarked on a mission to extend assistance to elephants and address their plight on the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan. This endeavour was born in response to the challenges posed by lockdowns and the subsequent decline in tourist visits. The journey toward this noble cause was arduous, but today, Phangan Elephant Sanctuary has been open to the public for several months.

Nestled within a lush, verdant forest on a hillside in the Southwestern part of the island, Phangan Elephant Sanctuary invites visitors to embark on an enlightening journey, delving into the stories of these rescued elephants. It offers a unique opportunity to interact with these majestic creatures by providing them nourishment in the form of rice balls, bananas, and other fresh fruits. This experience is one that everyone should aspire to have at least once in their lifetime.

Maew and his dedicated team have remained steadfast in upholding the same unwavering ethical principles that defined Samui Elephant Haven. Their primary goal is to ensure that these magnificent beings remain liberated from chains and untouched by the burden of tourists on their backs.
